Clarify the problem
When students do not respond, they must first clarify the problem:
1.The students feel embarrassed, the problem is too difficult, and they don't understand.

2.Students feel uninterested and
consider the discussion as a short break.

3.Students lack self-confidence, are not accustomed to speaking in front of others or are afraid of making mistakes.

7Strategy suggestion

- Tell students in advance to discuss topics, prepare students for class discussion (eg, pre-class reading, writing tips); or ask students to discuss with a classmate or group before class discussion.

- Clearly communicate what kind of goals you expect to achieve in class discussions.

-Tell the students what time they are expected to spend on the discussion so that they don't feel too long.
- Tell students to avoid certain arguments or the orientation of a problem and let the students understand the rules.

- You can walk around the classroom during the discussion to get closer to the students.
- Give feedback to the participating students and inform them that the performance has met the teacher's expectations.

- Spend a short time discussing with students how to conduct
effective class discussions.
